The manufacturer of chemical-technical specialty products Weicon has developed a wear protection system that protects surfaces against erosion and abrasion caused by the impact of coarse particles – Weicon WPG-19.

WPG-19
is a fibre-reinforced, ceramic-filled, two-component epoxy resin system. The
grey coating contains ceramic spheres up to two millimetres in size. It has
been developed to protect surfaces exposed to the impact of coarse particles.
The system is applied with a trowel. It is viscoplastic, highly impact
resistant and extremely resistant to abrasion. It serves as wear protection in
industry and is used for coating and lining various surfaces and components in
industrial plants.
WPG-19 is used, for example, to protect chutes, bends, hoppers, troughs, slides
and many other process systems exposed to abrasion and impact.
Plastic Metal
Plastic Metal refers to epoxy resin systems consisting of two components, a resin and a hardener. Depending on the type, the resin component is mixed with steel or aluminium powder or mineral fillers, which improves technical properties such as compressive strength and thermal conductivity.
Epoxy resin systems are suitable for a wide range of applications across different areas of industry. Plastic Metal can be used, for instance, in industrial series production for bonding, coating, wear protection and fast, durable repairs on various materials.
After mixing the two components, Plastic Metal cures at room temperature into a solid, metal-like material that can be machined. The material can be drilled, milled, ground or filed as required.
Versatile applications
Plastic Metal WPG-19 can be used in many areas of industry, e.g. on pumps, screw housings and screw conveyors, friction plates, wood chip and conveying fans, pulverising systems, centrifuges, separators, chutes, hoppers, containers, dust filtration systems, fly ash filters and ventilation fans.
